Golf Solitaire rules

  • 35 cards are dealt face up in 7 columns of 5. One card starts the foundation and the other 16 are the stock.
  • You can play the front card of any column to the foundation if it is one rank higher or lower. Suits don't matter.
  • Aces and Kings don't connect (no King after an Ace or Ace after a King), and nothing can be played on a King.
  • When you can't play, turn the next stock card onto the foundation. You go through the stock only once.
  • Clear every column to win. Your score is the number of cards left in the columns; if you clear them all, each card left in the stock counts minus one. Lower is better.

Tips to win more

When two cards can be played, pick the one that lets you keep playing longer. Longer runs save stock cards.

If a card could connect both up and down (a 6 and an 8 on a 7), think about which one you'll need later before you play.

A King ends the run. Play Kings early, while the stock still has plenty of cards.

The stock has only 16 cards. Play everything you can from the columns before you draw.

Stuck? Use Hint. It shows the next move of a winning line, or a suggested move when it can't be sure.

FAQ

Is it free? Do I need to sign up?

It's free and there's no sign-up. It runs right in your browser.

Is every deal winnable?

Yes. Before a deal is used, a program checks that every column can be cleared. If you get stuck, Undo takes you back.

Can I play a Queen on a King?

No. This game uses the classic rules: nothing goes on a King, and Aces and Kings don't connect.

How many times can I go through the stock?

Once. When all 16 stock cards are turned, the stock is done.

How is it scored?

Your score is the number of cards left in the columns. If you clear them all, each card left in the stock counts minus one. Lower is better.

What if I close the page?

On the same device and browser, your game continues where you left off.
